Quran Preservation

Quran Preservation (Quick Summary)*

THE QURAN IS PRESERVED IN 2 DIFFERENT WAYS:

1 - MEMORIZED WORD BY WORD (Main Method)
2 - WRITTEN

From the moment the first verses were revealed to Prophet Muhammad , the Quran was entrusted to a community steeped in memorization and oral tradition. The Companions, many of whom committed the entire Quran to heart.

There are Tens of Millions of Muslims memorized the entire Quran alive. *

"But this ˹Quran˺ is ˹a set of˺ clear revelations ˹preserved˺ in the hearts of those gifted with knowledge." (Quran 29:49)

The Muslims, since the time of Prophet Muhammad, have used to recite the Quran in their 5 prayers per day until today.

Prophet Muhammad encouraged his companions to learn and teach the Quran:
"The most superior among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it".

What makes this preservation unique is the "ijāzah" system, where a student receives certification from a teacher who has mastered the Quran memorization with, linking back through an unbroken chain of reciters to the "Prophet" himself.

The Quran is preserved through mass transmission from the time of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad until today. We know the names of all of the authorities who have memorised the Quran from the time of the Prophet Muhammad.

Some of the companions who memorized the Quran were:
'Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Ibn Masud, Abu Huraira, Abdullah bin Abbas, Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As, Aisha, Hafsa, and Umm Salama'.

Quran 15:9
