The Scientific Signs

The Quran mentions many types of scientific verses as signs for us to reflect on.

“We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that this is the truth.” (Quran 41:53)

The Expansion of the Universe

The Quran mentions that the universe is expanding 1400+ years ago. The expansion of the universe was only discovered in the 20th century, by Edwin Hubble showing that the universe is stretching out over time.

Quran 51:47

We built the universe with ˹great˺ might, and We are certainly expanding ˹it˺.”

The Sun and The Moon

It is proven by science that the sun is a star that generates intense heat and light by its internal combustion, and that the moon reflects the light received from the sun. The Quran mentioned that 1400+ years ago.

Quran 10:5

He is the One Who made the sun a radiant source and the moon a reflected light, with precisely ordained phases, so that you may know the number of years and calculation ˹of time˺. Allah did not create all this except for a purpose. He makes the signs clear for people of knowledge.”

The beginning of the Universe

Big bang theory, discovered by George's Lemaitre, an astronomer, explains how the universe began. The theory stated that very long ago, the universe started as a single point (joint entity) like a rapidly expanding balloon, it swelled from a size smaller than an electron to nearly its current size.

Quran 21:30

Do the disbelievers not realize that the heavens and earth were ˹once˺ one mass then We split them apart? And We created from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?”

The Heavy Clouds

The Quran mentioned 1400+ years ago that the clouds are heavy (Quran 13:12 and Quran 7:57). We only discovered that recently by modern science. In fact, many people still assume that the clouds are light till today.

Quran 13:12

He is the One Who shows you lightning, inspiring ˹you with˺ hope and fear, and produces heavy clouds.”

Orbital Motion

At the time of the Prophet Muhammad (1400+ years ago), the understanding of both European Christians and the Middle Eastern was that the Earth is the center of the universe. This was based on the ancient Greek cosmology standardized by Aristotle and Ptolemy Moreover, people used to believe that the Sun does not rotate only until the early 1600s, immediately after the telescope's invention. The Quran corrects them.

Quran 21:33

And He is the One Who created the day and the night, the sun and the moon—each travelling in an orbit.”

The Quran here told us that the heavenly bodies (Sun, Moon and the Earth) are all floating/rotating in their orbits. The Arabic word used in the verse "يَسْبَحُونَ" means "rotating".

Quran 36:40

It is not for the sun to catch up with the moon, nor does the night outrun the day. Each is travelling in an orbit of their own.”

Allah told us in this verse that the Moon and the Sun are keeping their order, not coming out of their orbits. Then, Allah talks about Night and Day not transgressing, when it is time for night, its night and when its time for day, its day. Finally, Allah said each of them are floating/swimming in their own orbit.

Forelock

The Quran describes the frontal lobe as responsible for lying. It refers to the frontal lobe of the brain, where reasoning is processed. It is proven by science that this part of the brain is responsible for executive control.

Quran 96:16

a lying, sinful forelock.”

Two Seas meet

The Quran mentions Two Seas meet but don't mix in (Quran 55:19-20) and (Quran 25:53).

Quran 55:19-20

He merges the two bodies of ˹fresh and salt˺ water, yet between them is a barrier they never cross. Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny?”

The Lowest Land on Earth

In Arabic the word أَدْنَى used in the verse has two meanings: the nearest and the lowest. It is proven by modern science that the lowest point on Earth is at the dead sea where the Roman army fought.

Arabic text of Surah Al-Fatihah, Verse 1

Fingerprints

When this verse was revealed in the desert of Arabia, there was no scientific understanding of fingerprints. The first scientific study of fingerprints as a means of identification did not begin until the late 19th century, with the work of Sir Francis Galton.

Conclusion

There are more other points the Quran talks about such as every living thing is created from water etc..

How can the Quran, revealed in the 7th century to an illiterate Prophet Muhammad, contain descriptions of natural phenomena that we just discovered recently by modern science unless it's from God?
